Sarah LeBrun Ingram became the first player to win two Women's Mid-Amateur titles when she defeated Mary Burkhardt, of St. Augustine, Fla., 2 and 1 in the final match at Rochester (Minn.) Golf and Country Club.

Ingram, now 27, had also won this championship in 1991, in her first years of eligibility, when it was held at Desert Highlands Golf and Country Club.

In the final, Ingram won the second and third holes to grab an early lead which she never relinquished. Burkhardt managed to trim Ingram's lead to 1 up at the sixth, but Ingram countered with a win on the seventh hole. She pushed her advantage to 3 up on the 11th hole and then hung on to close out the match, needing only a bogey on the 17th hole to end it.

Ingram's play improved with each round. She advanced with lopsided margins, including a 5 and 4 victory in her semifinal match. In contrast, Burkhardt, a 1992 quarterfinalist, was extended to 20 holes in her semifinal match.

Ingram had narrowly lost earlier in the summer in the final of the Women's Amateur, but there was not disappointment this time.
