Robin Weiss

Robin Weiss saved par by holing a 12-foot putt on the fourth extra hole and won the Women's Mid-Amateur Championship, defeating Page Marsh-Lea at the Hills of Lakeway, in Austin, Texas.

A 36-year-old resident of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, Miss Weiss had fallen three holes down to Mrs. Marsh-Lea after seven holes. Miss Weiss fought back, pulled even on the 12th, and went ahead for the first time by birdieing the 16th, her third birdie in eight holes.

Mrs. Marsh-Lea sent the match to extra holes by birdieing the 18th from 30 feet. This was the first Women's Mid-Amateur final that went to extra holes. They halved the first three extra holes with pars, but then Miss Weiss saved her par after driving into a fairway bunker on the fourth and won the match when Mrs. Marsh-Lea bunkered her approach and bogied.

In her third appearance in the Mid-Amateur, Miss Weiss won five other matches to reach the final, including a one-hole victory over Anne Sander in 19 holes in the third round. Mrs. Sander shot 71, and Miss Weiss 72. Mrs. Marsh-Lea, 26, had played a near-perfect round until faltering with a couple of bogeys on the par 3s on the second nine.
